Well, we are running a little behind on keeping this blog updated. It's now been a month since we've been in Thailand, but here's what we can remember. After a stopover in Bangkok,we flew up to Chiang Mai a day before we were scheduled to meet up with Ari and Jooliwan (Ali & Jubes asian aliases).
First impression was that it's hot and second impression that there were a lot of creepy old men that know the "local kids". Crazy how they unashamadely wonder around with their holiday prizes.
Some of the highlights were:A fullday thai cooking course at one of thailands celebrity chefs house. Ali and Lee teamed up while Brooke and Jubes made up the other team. 6 dishes throughout the day. 1 personal trainer to judge the winner of each round. After an intense countback, protests and some bribery... Brooke and Jubes took bragging rights (and full chef duties on their return home).
A kickboxing match and a night on the booze at connect-4 with the lady-boys at the pub was just too funny. We did meet two american girls who we educated about a ping pong show and organised to meet up take them to. Turns out the bar was not a show... just a brothel. So we had a few drinks and watched the ladies do karaoke for the clients, before moving on.A trip to the Golden Triangle and Long Neck Tribes did not consist of any drug running or opium smoking, but had it's own dilemmas for Ali. The long bus ride was just too much for Ali in her hung over state.
Next stop, Phuket. More precisely a beautiful 3 storey villa on the 14th hole of the country club. Thanks to Deb and Henry (Brookes uncle and aunty) for letting us stay at their holiday home. The first evening we just relaxed and had drinks by the pool with Deb, Ali and Jubes.
Next day we hired motor bikes (ok, they were scooters) and rode off down the coast in search beaches, scenery and the daily ritual of a "coke and pancake" (not to be confused with a schmoke and a pancake).
Next day we hit some islands James Bond style. The 4 of us jumped on a day trip boat where we went canoeing through some bat caves, searched "James Bond Island" for "Money Penny" and got a nice red glow for our tranny cabaret show that night... oh, only in Thailand could you get a fat guy in a heels and a wig to sing "Your Simply The Best!"
After our island adventure it was off to some more islands. Phi Phi!! But an adventure was just about to begin. We went to the wrong port to start with (true Brooke and Lee style) and with 15 minutes to get to the other side of town to catch the ferry. We searched for someone to help, we found a thai guy to take us the back streets. So with Aunty Deb behind the wheel and a toothless thai guy on a 20 year old scotter, we were off..following him all the while talking on his mobile, cutting though traffic in the backstreets, on his motorbike. He managed to get hold of the captain, who held the boat for us, and a small fee for him.
You've all seen the photos of the beautiful limestone cliffs so we won't bore you with it's amazingness, but it was pretty amazing. We then went over Krabi and stayed at Railay Beach... beautiful stuff... yadda yadda yadda. Back to Phuket, before to Bangkok for a final few days of shopping.
We splashed out and spent a couple of days in comfort. Updated some clothes and shoes for our trip ahead. Bought ridiculously new release dvd's that we can't watch, but can't not buy. Had another attempt at the ping-pong show. Ended 5 minutes later when we got ripped-off for not buying the "girls" drinks.
Our flight for London was scheduled to leave at 20 minutes past midnight 30th May. We got there with over 3 hours to spare, as we had Qantas Club member tickets... only to be told we were a day late.... the plane left at 12am 30th May! Our ticket is NON changeable and NON refundable. As you can imagine, we were stressing. Blaming airlines for not making people aware due to the time etc. As it happens regularly they chose to overlook the fine print and put us on stand-by. We didn't make the Qantas flight, but at 12.15 British Airways let us on their flight.....Just!!!!!That's all for now Lee and Brooke
